Glossary Entry: Language Learning Model
Definition
A language learning model (or LLM for short) is a type of program that attempts to statistically model a human language. They can then use statistics to guess what the next word or word fragment should be, creating the illusion of being able to understand written language.
LLMs are often used to create grammar checking software, help you type faster via text prediction, and many other mundane things.
More recently, they have become the backbone of generative AI tools like chatbots and AI image generators.
