Glossary Entry: Hack 'n Slash
Definition
Hack 'n Slash games are similar to Beat 'em Ups, though the similarity varies from game to game. Essentially, these games have the player characters fight lots of enemies using melee weapons like swords rather than fists.
In these games, combat is omnipresent but often unsophisticated, as the player's attacks automatically chain together or simply repeat the same slashing attack. Complicated controls or special moves are generally absent, which helps keep the action flowing quickly.
