Glossary Entry: Beat 'em Up

Definition

Beat 'em Ups are games where the player's character wanders around a stage and uses martial arts or fisticuffs to defeat their many opponents - picture a 1980's kung-fu action movie, and you've got the right idea.

Well-known examples of the genre include the Double Dragon, Final Fight, and Streets of Rage franchises.

Despite the similar names, Beat 'em Ups shouldn't be confused with Fighting Games, as the two genres have little in common!
