Glossary Entry: Fighting Game
Definition
Fighting games are video games centered around the concept of elaborate tournament-style bouts. Most of the time, these are themed around martial arts and feature matches where the contestants battle each other in one-on-one combat.
Popular examples of this genre include the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat franchises, as well as the many Capcom vs Fill-in-the-Blank games.
That said, Fighting games should not be confused with Beat 'em Ups, as their mechanics are very different!
