Glossary Entry: Virtual Machine

Definition

A virtual machine is a virtual computer system. Thanks to specialized programs, they use some of the host computer's hardware to run a second operating system as if it was a program.

From the user's perspective, this is similar to an emulator, albeit more complicated.

IMPORTANT: in order to legally use an virtual machine, you must have a valid license for the software you're running with it.

Emulating software without a valid license is a crime.
