Glossary Entry: Steampunk

Definition

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction that draws its inspiration from the very early industrial era. Gears, clockworks, grease, leather caps with goggles, and clouds of steam are omnipresent, as this defines the setting's level of technological progress.

Another common feature of this genre is the use of very big and proper sounding words. For example, robots will probably be called "automatons", and a "electronic trans-spacial displacement device" would be what we would call a transporter.
