Glossary Entry: Retcon

Quick Definition

Short for "retroactive continuity", a retcon is a change in a fictional work that alters already existing material. Minor changes may be a simple as changing the name of a character's hometown, while major changes can rewrite history as the fictional universe knows it.

By themselves, retcons are neither good nor bad, but they sure can make fans angry if handled carelessly.
