Glossary Entry: Open Beta
Unlike a closed beta*, this form of a beta test* is open to the public. Anyone that wants to become a beta tester* may do so, though there may be a fee involved. In other words, you might be able to join in for free, but often beta testers* are asked to purchase the still incomplete product at a discounted price beforehand. Of course, if this is the case, then the developers are expected to upgrade the beta testers* to the full release when it comes out for no additional fee.
