Glossary Entry: Closed Beta

Quick Definition

This is one of two types of beta tests*. In this version, the general public is not allowed to take part. Instead, the developer chooses who gets to be a beta tester*. For example, they may select their beta testers* from a list of applicants rather than let anyone join in.

Reasons for doing this vary, but I'm fairly confident that you can trust that most developers chose this route for a reason. They might still turn the closed beta into an open beta* later on when more of the serious issues have been fixed.
