Glossary Entry: Miniboss

Quick Definition

Although these characters might literally be smaller versions of an actual boss, the term "miniboss" refers to a an opponent who ranks somewhere between a normal enemy and a boss character. Often, they are fairly dangerous enemies who act as a "gate keeper" somewhere in the middle of a large stage.

Additionally, it's common for a miniboss to act a as a checkpoint in a game. Once the miniboss is defeated, the checkpoint is activated, and if something happens before you clear the stage, you can continue from there later on.
