Glossary Entry: Loot Box

A "loot box" or "loot crate" is an in-game item that gives players a variety of in-game prizes once opened. These prizes can range from in-game items or equipment to special items or skins that can only be obtained as a prize.

However, this is a highly controversial mechanic in modern gaming, as the prizes are randomly determined and many games charge players real money for the right to open a loot box.
