Glossary Entry: Isometric Perspective

Definition

An isometric perspective is a way of depicting a 3D space without actually using 3D technologies. By drawing the game's world using a tilted grid, games could fake 3D without straining the system too much. One side effect of this was that the "camera" couldn't be rotated or shown from another angle, though it was rarely a problem in practice.

Probably the most well known game that used this technique was Simcity 2000, which stood out from the other games in its series by its unique grid system.
