Glossary Entry: Invincibility Frames

Quick Definition

Games can assign special meanings to the individual frames in an animation. One of the most common uses of this technique is to assign "invincibility frames", which are specific frames of a character's animation where they cannot be harmed by in-game events.

While these usually exist to allow a character to perform an action without risk of being interrupted, skilled players can exploit this mechanic by timing their actions so that their character becomes immune to damage just as they are struck by attacks that can't normally be dodged or avoided.
