Glossary Entry: Installer
Definition
An installer is a program that exists for the sole purpose of setting up another program.
Back in the day, programs were distributed as compressed data files and spread over multiple disks. Installers provided a simple means of extracting and recombining the files, among other things. These days, most installers just display splash screens while your program downloads.
