Glossary Entry: Dialogue Tree

Quick Definition

Dialogue trees are one of the better methods of letting the player "talk" in video games. It's a simple system: when it's the player's turn to speak, they are presented with a selection of possible responses.

Each choice moves the scene along, possibly making it impossible to step back and choose another option without restarting the conversation. This creates a "tree" or branching flowchart of possible ways the conversation can go.
