Glossary Entry: Wall Jump

Quick Definition

Wall jumping is a popular gameplay mechanic that is found in many platformers and may even appear in 3D games. The basic idea is that a character can launch themselves off of a wall as if they were jumping normally. If the walls are close enough together, repeatedly wall jumping between them can allow characters to climb up to otherwise unreachable locations.

More Details

Most of the time, players can perform a wall jump by simply facing a wall in mid-air and pressing the jump button. Some games require a more elaborate technique, such as quickly facing away from the wall at the last moment before jumping, but that's basically how this works.
