Glossary Entry: Fanservice

Fanservice refers to anything that was added to a work for the explicit purpose of pleasing fans. It can come in all sorts of different forms, such as a quick reference to a fan favorite character, a prolonged shots of the franchise's giant mecha being readied for battle, or an easter egg that's out in the open.

Unfortunately, fanservice also has a negative connotation, as it refers to the inclusion of unnecessary sexual content in certain genres (notably anime).
