Glossary Entry: Tarball

Quick Definition

These are archive files with the extension .tar or .tar.gz . They were created using a utility called tar, hence the nickname for the archive files it produces.

On Windows, this type of file may require a special program to be able to unpack it as Windows doesn't typically have the ability to handle this sort of archive file built in to it.
