Glossary Entry: Sequence break

Quick Definition

Most video games are designed so that the player goes through a specific route from start to the finish. Sometimes though, a clever player can work their way through the game's world in such a way that they skip portions of the game or otherwise do things in the wrong order. This is known as sequence breaking, and it's often a vital technique to earn a good time on a speedrun.

Be aware that the developers didn't intend for the player to do this, and so things might end up going haywire or otherwise fail to act as expected.
