Glossary Entry: ESC key

Quick Definition

The Escape Key, usually labeled ESC, is found in the upper left of most keyboards. In the majority of programs, it's used to back out of or cancel an operation. Games frequently use it as a "pause button" or as a way to bring up a special menu that allows the player to save or quit their game, or change the game's configuration options.
