Glossary Entry: Bullet Time

Quick Definition

Normally, events in games and movies take place in real time; the bullet strikes the target within milliseconds of the gun firing. Sometimes though time slows down during the action, allowing the viewer to watch as the bullets fly through the air. Slow motion action scenes are thus known as "bullet time".

This has been used in many films and movies, though The Matrix franchise is credited with popularizing it.
