Glossary Entry: Spyware

Quick Definition

Some malicious software exists to monitor what the user is doing or what information is found on the user's system. This software spies on the user, hence the name "spyware". As it records its findings, it also reports the details to a third party without the user's acknowledgement or approval.

Among other things, spyware often looks for email addresses, personal information or passwords.

Regardless of its actual use, you don't want spyware on your computer.
