Glossary Entry: Circle Strafing

Quick Definition

This is a technique that was popularized in older First Person Shooters. It's little more than running around in circles around an enemy or cluster of enemies while shooting at them.

The problem with this idea is that in order to target an enemy, you must also be facing it, and you normally only move in the direction you are facing. Strafing on the other hand, has you run sideways, which allows you to face your target while moving around them.

This is surprisingly effective, as the AI in older games wasn't smart enough to lead their target and would have trouble hitting you if you kept moving.
